Why I Love Nars Sheer Glow

Up until around this time last year I'd always struggled to find a foundation that I absolutely loved. There was always something wrong with the ones I'd tried. They offered too much coverage, not enough coverage, the wrong skin shades, a texture that I didn't love... The list goes on. Some broke me out and others even made my skin look even worse than it actually was. I'm fairly fussy when it comes to base makeup, I believe that a good foundation is absolute key to gorgeous makeup. I looked up and down for a foundation that gave the look of flawless skin while still looking dewy and fairly natural. Nars Sheer Glow was the foundation I'd been looking for all along.

What I love about this most is it's coverage. Medium but easily buildable, this foundation leaves my skin looking flawless, despite the fact that it most certainly isn't. I can always turn to this when my skin is completely effed.  I also love that there's no SPF, which is great for flash photos although I end up wearing an SPF underneath it if I'm going out in the sun anyway.  It feels so weightless on the skin that I barely notice I'm even wearing anything which is great as lots of foundations have left me wanting to claw at my skin halfway through the day - I hate feeling like I'm wearing a whole heap of makeup. The texture is gorgeous, it feels quite silky which I absolutely adore. It doesn't cake around patches of dry skin either which makes it ideal for anyone with dry skin.

It has quite a 'satin-matte' finish which I really really like. I never want a fully matte foundation, nor do I want a completely dewy foundation so this sits nicely in between.  It's name suggests that it would be a light coverage glowy foundation, but don't be fooled by that. It is certainly not sheer in coverage by any means, and if I remember correctly the 'sheer' that we see in the title apparently actually refers to the glow being sheer, not the coverage.  This foundation is also nearly undetectable on the skin which is another thing I absolutely adore.

Application wise, I absolutely adore using the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. This gives quite a seamless, natural look and leaves the skin glowing. I also like to use my fingers to apply it on days where I don't feel like using a brush. This foundation looks best when it has been warmed up with fingers and this is actually the reason why it doesn't come with a pump. Nars apparently wish for their customers to apply it using fingers.

The foundation comes in a whopping 20 shades, most of which are yellow toned. I went for Montblanc which is a teensy little bit too dark for me in the Winter but spot on in the Summer. I can get away with it on my paler days by blending it really well.  It is recommended for dry to normal skin types, although I'd say my skin is more combination. On me it starts to look a little worn and faded after about 6 hours, however I rarely wear powder and I'm always too lazy to touch it up. It's not the longest wearing foundation on me, but for anyone with dry to normal skin types it would probably wear for a lot longer.

I pick mine up from Mecca Cosmetica here in Australia for the new permanently reduced price of $59. If you're after a foundation which delivers hydrated, brightened, even skin definitely check this one out.  My absolute holy grail foundation.

    1. I do have semi oily skin but that isn't a huge problem for me with this foundation. I can see that having really oily skin would maybe affect the longevity of the product but the good news is that Nars also have the Nars Sheer Matte, which I haven't tried yet but it is probably more ideal for oily skin types. Maybe track down a sample of both of them and see how you go! xx

  3. I've wanted to give this a try for ages - the price being the only thing that has stopped me! But I think I just might splurge on this for my next foundation. Lovely review :)
